New Boiler Installation in Swindon: Process and Timescales
Replacement day goes smoothly when the survey was done properly. Here is the sequence and what to insist on.
Before installation day
1. Survey: a Gas Safe engineer inspects the boiler, flue route, gas supply size, radiators and controls. Combi-to-combi swaps are straightforward; fuel or position changes add work. 2. Itemised written quote: boiler model, flue, controls, magnetic filter, power flush if recommended, labour, and removal of the old unit. Compare like-for-like. 3. Check registration: confirm the installer's Gas Safe licence for the work type. Non-registered installation is illegal.
Installation day
A straightforward combi swap takes most of one working day. System changes, cylinder removal or repositioning the boiler typically run to two days. Expect water off for a few hours and heating off overnight in some cases.
After the job
- Building Regulations notification: your installer must notify the work (via a competent persons scheme) — you should receive a Building Regulations Compliance Certificate by post within weeks. Keep it with the deeds; solicitors ask for it on sale.
- Benchmark logbook: the engineer completes it; it activates the manufacturer warranty.
- Servicing diary: the warranty requires an annual service by a Gas Safe engineer.
